You know your a proud Mama when your child wants to make her first craft and comes for some advice. My daughter (Danyelle) made the cutest porch sign for a friends front porch. I don’t know who was more proud of it me or her.
Danyelle already had in mind what she wanted to make but wasn’t sure how to begin this fun little project. After figuring out what she wanted, off to Lowe’s we went to get some 1 x 4″ wood cut.
I had the rest of the supplies at home for her to make her sign.
The best look for a porch sign is to make it look weather beaten. So, the first thing she did was distress the wood. What does that mean…beat the crap out of it!
After Danyelle sanded and beat up the wood it was time to paint it. She wanted a real wood look so I mixed up some light and dark gray paint. I know you are thinking that’s not wood colors but you will see where this is going. We didn’t mix the colors real well so that it will give the wood some light and dark spots.
After the gray dried she put on a coat of dark brown paint.
After putting the dark brown paint on the boards you just take a cloth and wipe any access off.
Now it was time for here to stencil her letters on.
After she painted the letters she added a little color.
One more sanding and the sign is done.
Here’s my proud little girl with her porch sign. She screwed hooks and twisted a wire on the back so the sign can be hung.
“WELCOME TO THE PORCH OF KNOWLEDGE & WISDOM”
