Last week I talked about how being organized is a lifestyle and not a choice and that’s how “The Living a Life with Less” began. You can read about it HERE.
It’s about challenging yourself to change the way you live. If you live a live with less you will live a happier life. Clutter can be overwhelming and if we tackle one item at a time you will feel the overwhelming burden being lifted off of you and the free feeling will make your life easier.
You have to be the one who wants to change and create an environment that will reflect who you are. You have to learn to embrace the things that work for you and let go of the things that don’t.
So let’s get started on our “200 Things to Declutter to Living a Life With Less”.
The first thing we are going to tackle this week are your jeans, pants, slacks, and capris. Why? because honestly….
Apparently, I think I do!
I had 46 pairs of jeans, 22 pairs of capris, and 9 pairs of dress pants. Now that is one word, REDICULOUS!
This is how I began to organize and purge all them pants.
GET A BOX OR CONTAINER
I took every pair of pants out of my closet and tried every pair on. The question you have to ask yourself is, “Do you LOVE them”. Not, “Well these will be cute with that top”. Nope, that doesn’t work. The correct answer is if you don’t LOVE THEM in the box they go.
- Have you lost weight and they are too big. (Give them away someone could use some pants)
- Have you gained weight and are thinking you are going to fit into them again. (Wrong way to think. If you lose weight, treat yourself to some new pants. There is someone that could use those pants you are holding on to.)
- When you are done, close that box and put it in your car. Give them to a church, goodwill or if you know someone that may know someone that could use them. Just get rid of that box and don’t look back.
Now that you purged them jeans think of how you want to store them to utilize your space and give yourself some room. I will show you the different ways you can organize your jeans.
You can use the old plastic hangers that your jeans slide on and once you have your jeans hung it takes up too much room in your closet. I feel these hangers with jeans on them are just too bulky.
I use slimline hangers that are made with velvet. My jeans don’t slide and with these hangers you will use half of the room that you would use with plastic hangers.
If you don’t like to hang your jeans you can always fold them neatly and stack them on a shelf.
If space is an issue then you can can put them in a drawer if you have dresser space. There are two ways you can do this. The first is you can fold them and stack them neatly.
If you have a deep dresser drawer you can fold your jeans and set them in the drawer Vertically. The upside is that when you open the drawer you can see all your jeans.
If you have the hangers you can always hang your jeans from the bottoms. I do this with my dress pants but it is an option if you like that look.
Jeans can take up so much space so think of these choices to organize your jeans, pants and capris. Find what works best for you and your space.
TIP: Do not wash your jeans every time you wear them unless you’ve been playing in the dirt doing yard work. They will last longer if you wash them when needed, inside out in cold water. You shouldn’t dry them but I do. (my bad)
For the fun of it count them before you start and then let me know how many you have left. I can’t wait to here how you all made out.
I have 32 pairs of jeans, 9 pairs of capris and 6 pairs of dress pants. That was 77 pairs of pants and now I’m down to 47. I’d say that was quite an accomplishment for me. Who knows that may not be the end but it sure was a good start.
I did give them away so they are no longer tempting for me to take back.Happiness is a place between too little and too much. Click To Tweet
